BORNO GOVERNMENT PREPARES FOR MASS TREE PLANTING TO COMBAT DEFORESTATION AND CLIMATE CHANGE

In a bold step towards reversing the adverse effects of deforestation and improving environmental sustainability, the Borno State Government—under the leadership of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum—is preparing for a massive tree planting program across the state.

This initiative is being spearheaded by the Borno State Agency for the Great Green Wall, under the capable leadership of the Director General, Ambassador Usman Aliyu. It forms a critical part of the Zulum administration’s environmental agenda, aimed at building a greener, healthier, and more resilient Borno.

As global and local concerns over climate change continue to rise, Borno is taking proactive action to protect its environment. Deforestation has led to rising temperatures, soil degradation, desert encroachment, and poor air quality, posing a serious threat to livelihoods, agriculture, and the overall well-being of communities.

The Agency’s preparation for the tree planting campaign can already be seen at its tree nursery site, where over one million seedlings are currently being raised. These seedlings will be distributed and planted across key areas of the state as part of a long-term reforestation and climate resilience strategy.

This tree planting effort will not only help mitigate the effects of climate change but also restore lost vegetation, improve biodiversity, create jobs, and promote a culture of environmental responsibility among residents.

The general public is encouraged to support this vital initiative. Together, we can reclaim our land, restore our environment, and secure a sustainable future for generations to come.
