In a brief event held today in Maiduguri, the leaders of the North East Disability Forum presented assorted food items donated by the North East Development Commission (NEDC) for distribution to person with disabilities affected by the September 10th flood in Maiduguri. During the opening remarks, Mal. Adama Ishaku, Secretary of the North East Disability Forum and National Secretary of JONAPWD, highlighted the Forum's continuous efforts to support its members affected by the natural disaster. He expressed gratitude to the NEDC for recognizing the needs of the disabled community and responding with food items to alleviate their suffering.
Presenting the relief items on behalf of the forum, Alhaji Usman Bura, Chairman of the North East Disability Forum and Zonal Coordinator of JONAPWD, thanked the NEDC for their consistent support. He called on the state leaders to ensure the fair and equitable distribution of the donated items to the affected members.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Borno State chapter, the state chairman of JONAPWD, Alhaji Amadu Umar, expressed appreciation to both the NEDC and the forum for their timely intervention. He assured that the items would be distributed transparently to all affected members in need.
In her remarks, Hassana Mohammed Bunu, the state women’s leader of the association, acknowledged the challenges faced by disabled women during the flood and expressed gratitude for the timely support. She commended the zonal leadership for their outreach efforts.
The event concluded with closing remarks from Mr. Fali, National Vice President of JONAPWD, who praised the NEDC for their inclusive approach and called on other stakeholders to emulate the commission’s example.
The event's highlight was the formal presentation of the items to the state leadership by the zonal leaders, signifying a crucial step toward supporting disabled flood victims in the region.
