North East Development Commission SupportsPersons with Disabilities Flood Victims Through Disability ForumOctober 11, 2024


In a brief event held today in Maiduguri, the leaders of the North East Disability Forum presented assorted food items donated by the North East Development Commission (NEDC) for distribution to person with  disabilities affected by the September 10th flood in Maiduguri. The donation was facilitated by North East Disability forum 
During the opening remarks, Mal. Adama Ishaku, Secretary of the North East Disability Forum and National Secretary of JONAPWD, highlighted the Forum's continuous efforts to support its members affected by the natural disaster. He expressed gratitude to the NEDC for recognizing the needs of the disabled community and responding with food items to alleviate their suffering.

Presenting the relief items on behalf of the forum, Alhaji Usman Bura, Chairman of the North East Disability Forum and Zonal Coordinator of JONAPWD, thanked the NEDC for their consistent support. He called on the state leaders to ensure the fair and equitable distribution of the donated items to the affected members.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Borno State chapter, the state chairman of JONAPWD, Alhaji Amadu Umar, expressed appreciation to both the NEDC and the forum for their timely intervention. He assured that the items would be distributed transparently to all affected members in need.

In her remarks, Hassana Mohammed Bunu, the state women’s leader of the association, acknowledged the challenges faced by disabled women during the flood and expressed gratitude for the timely support. She commended the zonal leadership for their outreach efforts.

The event concluded with closing remarks from Mr. Fali, National Vice President of JONAPWD, who praised the NEDC for their inclusive approach and called on other stakeholders to emulate the commission’s example.

The event's highlight was the formal presentation of the items to the state leadership by the zonal leaders, signifying a crucial step toward supporting disabled flood victims in the region.

BARRISTER HAUWA ABUBAKAR IDENTIFIES AND SUPPORTS FLOOD-AFFECTED PWDS IN BORNO


Yesterday, Barrister Hauwa Abubakar, Attorney General and Commissioner of the Justice of Borno State, through her Green Dark Leaves Initiative, identified People With Disabilities (PWDs) affected by the recent floods and reached out with vital support. In collaboration with the Peace Ambassador Center for Humanitarian Aid and Empowerment, and with the support of the Borno State Ministry of Information and Internal Security, Barrister Abubakar provided much-needed food and non-food items to alleviate the hardships faced by PWDs due to the flooding. The event took place at the Peace Ambassador Center for Humanitarian Aid and Empowerment Office.  
The Ministry of Information and Internal Security was represented by Permanent Secretary Alhaji Modu Mustapha and Director of Administration Babagana Mustapha, who attended the event to reinforce the state's commitment to supporting affected communities.  

Barrister Abubakar's Green Dark Leaves Initiative has consistently been involved in climate action, including tree planting and environmental awareness campaigns. This humanitarian outreach reflects her dedication to social responsibility, ensuring that vulnerable groups in Borno State receive essential aid during difficult times.  

The event was also attended by Amb Ahmed Shehu, founder and president of the Peace Ambassador Center for Humanitarian Aid and Empowerment, along with Amb Usman Aliyu, Director-General of the Borno State Agency for the Great Green Wall, and young peace advocates who played key roles in the distribution process.  

This initiative underscores the power of collaboration between state bodies and humanitarian organizations in addressing the critical needs of affected communities across Borno State.
