Maiduguri, Borno State - Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo, the Honourable Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development, has stated that women empowerment is a key focus of the Borno State Government under the administration of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum.
Hajiya Gambo made this statement during the unveiling of the Standup For Women Society in Maiduguri. She emphasized that the organization's mission and vision align with the state government's priorities, which include empowering women.
The event, which took place on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at the Borno State Ministry of Women Affairs Auditorium, featured the presentation of appointment letters to Zonal and State Matrons and Patrons, including Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Barrister Hauwa Abubakar, and the Executive Director of the Network of Civil Society Organizations, Borno, Comrade Bulama Abiso.
Awards of excellence were also presented to notable supporters of women's empowerment, such as the Borno State First Lady, Dr. Falamata Babagana Umara Zulum, Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan, and Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo herself, as well as other commissioners and a school proprietress.
Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan, who was represented by Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo, expressed his gratitude to the society and announced a donation of two million naira. The First Lady, represented by Hajiya Gambo, also thanked the society for the recognition and award.
