FAST-TRACKING DEVELOPMENT- BOSG TRAINS TOP CIVIL SERVANTS

- To Focus on the implementation of the 25years Development plan being facilitated by Lagos Business School

Borno State Ministry of Budget and Planning in collaboration with the Borno State Delivery Support Unit, Agency For Coordination and Sustainable Development, Partnership and Humanitarian Response Yesterday Monday 19th February 2024 unveiled a five-day capacity building to top State Civil Servants on Public Policy and Governance.

The Capacity Building is being held at the International Conference Center of Musa Usman Secretariat under the facilitation of Lagos Business School.

In his welcome address, the Honourable Commissioner for Budget and Planning Dr. Mustapha Malumbe disclosed that Capacity building is tailored to the specific needs, in particular, to ease the implementation of the Borno State 25-year Development Plan and equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate these complexities in Good Governance and designed by experts from Lagos Business School a Pan-Atlantic University, Founded in 1986. Lagos Business School has established itself as a leading business school in Africa, renowned for its rigorous academics, impactful research, and strong alumni network.

He also said the participants will be trained in three areas Re-evaluating the vision, mission, and core value statement of Borno State: Borno State's 25-year Development plan essentials of strategy, Making Strategy work in a Disruptive Environment, and The challenges of changing a Government.

The State Head of Service Barrister Fannami in special remarks said the training is one among the ongoing public service reforms embarked upon by Governor Babagana umara Zulum already he said the Governor has introduced Promotional exams to ensure Civil Servants are placed and appointments to certain positions in merit. Hence thanked the organizers for coming up with the training.

Mario Mandara the Chief Adviser to the Governor and State Coordinator for Sustainable Development and Partnership and Humanitarian Support while giving her goodwill message pointed out that the Governor in his letter stated that the 25-year development plan is owned by the people of the state and has called for individuals and collective efforts towards achieving she is optimistic therefore the capacity building will prepare stakeholders in the public sector in implementing the plan. She also advocated for Attitudinal Change and Social Reoriebtaions among Public Servants and stakeholders.
Dr. Matthew Ayibakuro Governance adviser and technical lead for the Borno Delivery Support Unit Foreign Commonwealth Development office spoke virtually and said the capacity building is supporting Borno to succeed in its recovery projects, especially in service delivery hence assured the continued support of the Unit. He wishes all participants a successful training.

In another goodwill message delivered by the Director of Education Lagos Business School Mr Victor Attah thanked the Borno state Government and their partners for collaborating with the school in implementing the capacity building.LBS is the only business school in West, East, and Central Africa to hold two of the three most prestigious global accreditations the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and the Association of MBAs (AMBA) held by less than 5% of top business schools Mr. Attah said they will put their best ensuring the training a successful. 

LBS delivery team including the Hon. Frank Nweke, Jr, a former minister, former Director General of NESG and currently a Senior Visiting Fellow at LBS, Professor Silk Ogbu (academic director of the LBS Public Sector Leadership Initiative, Professor Perekunah Eregha, (co-coordinator of Nigeria Agenda 2050) and Umar Idris, our public sector initiative business development manager are on ground to facilitate the workshop which will based on knowledge exchange, skill enhancement, and collaborative learning The Director added.

Declaring the Capacity building training opened the Secretary to State Government Dr Bukar Tijjani said the training has come at in better time, it serves as an induction to six newly appointed permanent Secretaries. He also set targets for participants for certificates will only be issued if they made up the targets hence urging them to put more effort and put into use what they will learn.
Alhaji Sadiq a newly appointed Permanent Secretary gave a vote of thanks on behalf of the Participants and assured the SSG of their full participation in meeting targets and expectations.
