 PEACE BUILDING: Herwa Community Development Initiative Convenes Town Hall Meeting.


Henceforth Deejays and Mandiri Musical Bands too Must Have Security Clearances before Operating


Under aegis of Jere local government Area Community Peace And Safety partnership (CPSP), Herwa Community Development Initiative with the support of British Council Program Managing Conflict In Nigeria MCN, Today 7th October 2021 convened a critical Stakeholders town Hall Meeting at Dujuma international Hotel Maiduguri to proffer solutions on Youths Violence during Wedding Celebration.



The Community Peace and Safety partnership is a platform created  by Herwa Community Development Initiative with the aim of strengthening peace Machanism in the Area. The platform have government officials, traditional and religious leaders, youths and women groups as Members and usually meet on monthly basis.


Briefing the media the Executive Director, Herwa Community Development Initiative Alhaji Mohammed Ngubdo said the town Hall Meeting is bringing Stakeholders to address violence issues related to the activities of Deejays and Mandiri Bands.



Delivering key note address,  professor Ibrahim Umara from Center for Peace Studies University of Maiduguri dwelt extensively on the historical background of the peaceful coexistence of Borno State and also called on the Stakeholders to appreciates the relative return of  peace to the state by understanding their businesses and align it to the norms and value of the community in which they operate.

The town hall meeting brought to the fore many issues arising from the activities of the musical groups and outline solutions to it.


Among the issues raised were influence of drug abuse on both youths and the band members, performance of the group  without consent of security and Community leaders, introduction of  alien culture into the society from activities of the group which is against the norms and Values of the Community while  leaders of the  group lament on the existence of many  miscreants in the community that intrude into their  performance despite taking measures.

Other issues  lamented are high unemployment rate among Youths in the community.



In other to address the issues, Stakeholders outline and agreed on action points which include:



Henceforth, every Deejay and Mandiri Musical Band should have clearance  from Security and Community leaders before operation.


No any Deejay or Mandiri Musical Band should receive invitation from rival or miscreant groups.


Stakeholders should embark on aggressive  sensitisation and awareness camping against Drug abuse.


- The Local Government  should devise sustainable means of empowering unemployed youths in the Community both educationally and Economically.



In attendance were the Council Chairman, Hon Umar Guja Tom, political party leader Alhaji Kachallah Ali, District head of khaddamari Abba Maalima, District head of Dusman Alhaji Abba Terab, Sheikh  Gambo Kyari and Adamu Wampa Representing Muslim and Christian Communities of Jere,  Hon Zanna Modu Gubio Director Emirate Affairs Borno State,  DPOs of  Gwange, Bulunkutu Divisional police office  DO NSCDC Jere,  Dj Suuny, Chairman Borno State Deejays Association, Aminua Yusuf, Vice Chairman Mandiri Musical Bands Association and Usman S. Gwange representing Borno Musician forum
